Tune into nature's rhythms and harness the refreshing and revitalising energy of springtime. The wood element rules over this season - balancing our desire to move forwards into the light with our need for quiet contemplation and groundedness. It is a time of enormous potential; after the passivity of winter we may feel ready to ask ourselves what it is we want to create and how we can achieve that whilst maintaining balance in the body's system. In Chinese Medicine, Spring is associated with the Liver & Gallbladder meridians, meaning that our yin sequence will target the tissues in and around the pelvis. Coupled with yin yoga, the workshop will include joint-freeing qi gong movement, self-massage and yoga nidra (a type of meditation accessed through deep relaxation). What is yin yoga? Yin yoga is a powerful and nourishing practice where postures are held for minutes at a time, rather than a few breaths. The connective tissues of the body (your network of fascia) can carry tension, stress and emotional histories. We might experience this as a congested shoulder, hip flexor or sore lower back. Through methodical, informed and sustained stretching and compressing, we are able release these blockages. It is a challenging but rewarding exercise for the body and mind which can transform how freely we move. Class sizes are limited - a small, friendly group so that you are given the individual attention you deserve, modifications will be offered if you are working with body quirks/injuries.
