Slow Down Saturday - Yin Yoga Workshop
Description
At the start of a new season (and perhaps return to the routine of school terms), treasure the opportunity to slow down, take inventory and practice self-care. We are capable of going on an immense adventure by being in our own company, yet it is an advanced practice to simply sit with ourselves and listen to the contents of the mind without reacting. This three hour workshop will include a little mobilisation to warm your bones followed by an extended yin yoga sequence. There will also be plenty of time for resting; during the final hour of our workshop we will take a yoga nidra for soothing the nervous system. This is a type of meditation accessed through deep relaxation - there is no way to do it wrong and it can be transformative for managing energy levels, anxiety and stress. What is yin yoga? Yin yoga is a calming yet powerful practice where postures are held for minutes at a time, rather than a few breaths. The connective tissues of the body (your network of fascia) can carry tension, stress and emotional histories. We might experience this as a congested shoulder, hip flexor or sore lower back. Through methodical, informed and sustained stretching and compressing, we are able release these blockages. It is a challenging but rewarding exercise for the body and mind which can transform how freely we move and think. Class sizes are limited - a small, friendly group so that you are given the individual attention you deserve, modifications will be offered if you are working with body quirks/injuries.
